Surah Al-Waqiah, the 56th Surah of the Nobly Holy Quran is found in the 27th Juz (Para). This Surah contains 3 Rukus, 96 Verses, . Surah Waqiah is revealed in Makkah, so it is known as Makki Surah.

The English meaning of Surah Al-Waqi’ah is “The Inevitable” or “The Event.” This Surah reveals the concept of Judgment Day, describing the types of people and their fate in the afterlife. This Surah is the reminder of one’s actions and serves as a call to reflection and preparation for the Hereafter.

Hadiths about Surah Al Waqiah

Abdullah Ibn Masood (rz) narrated that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Whoever recites Surah al-Waqiah every night, he will never be afflicted by poverty. And Ibn Masood (rz) used to order his daughters to read it every night.”

It was narrated from Shujaa’ from Abi Faatimah that ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) visited Ibn Mas’ood when he was sick. He said, “What is hurting?” He said, “My sins.” He said, “What do you need?” He said, “The mercy of my Lord.” He said, “Shall we not call the doctor for you?” He said, “The doctor made me ill.” He said, “Shall I order that your regular income [from the state] be restored to you?” He said, “You did not let me have it before today and I have no need of it now.” He said, ‘Then leave it to your family and dependents.” He said, “I have taught them something which, if they say it, they will never become poor. I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say, ‘Whoever recites al-Waaqi’ah every night will never become poor.”

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Surah al Waqiah is the Surah of Wealth, so recite it and teach it to your children” [Ibn Asakir]

Surah Al-Waqiah Benefits:

1- Poverty Protection

Surah Al-Waqiyyah mentions the favor that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has bestowed upon the believers. In fact, it has a great message that Allah has given life and with it our rewards. And to obtain the best (halal) in this world is also a blessing from Allah. Many people believe that reciting and reciting Surah Al-Waqiyya gives relief from poverty. Many traditions also indicate the importance of reciting Surah Al-Waqeedah.

On the authority of Abdullah bin Masoud, may Allah be pleased with him:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: Whoever recites Surah Al-Waqi’ah every night, he will never be in poverty. (Abu Ubaid Fazil in the Qur’an)

2- Living Under Paradise Tree Shade

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said

“Indeed, there is a tree in Paradise under whose shade a rider can travel for a hundred years. If you want, read the verse. “And the shadow grew,” (56:30). Your place of one bow in Paradise is better than anything on which the sun rises and sets.

Subhan Allah! Indeed, the one who recites Surah Al-Waqiyya benefits in this world and in the hereafter.

3- Keeping the Believer on the Right Path

Undoubtedly, Surah al-Waqiyyah is like a treasure that is full of guidance. It helps to know and contemplate the Day of Judgment. Also, it encourages the reciter to strive more in the way of Allah so as to achieve maximum results on the Day of Resurrection.

4- Learn more about Heaven and Hell

Surah Al-Waqiyya is full of lessons that tell us about the rewards of the Hereafter. The rewards for a faithful servant of Allah are so great that it makes us forget the world and its complacency. On the other hand, contemplating the torment and hellfire makes our hearts tremble with fear and this is a great lesson.

5- To know the Greatness of Allah

Recitation of Surah Al-Waqi’ah helps us to get closer to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. A deep consideration of its verses makes us aware of the details that are mentioned in this surah. It also makes us aware of the greatness of our Lord and surrenders to Him with great devotion.

Surah Al-Waqiah Theme

Surah al-Waqi’ah describes the Day of Resurrection when people will be divided into three groups. And everyone will be rewarded according to his deeds.

The first group will consist of those who were pioneers or those who strived the most in the service of Allah, who will be rewarded with woven boards, servants, drinks, fruits, fowls and good wives.

The second group would consist of those who were average and would receive the rewards of trees, layered fruits, extended shade, tall shaders and more.

The last group consists of those who were misguided and denied the truth. For them there is fire, boiling water, shadow of black smoke and more.

Allah Ta’ala also makes us realize in Surah Al-Waqi’ah that He has blessed us with all the essentials of life. He has blessed us with creation, sustenance, agriculture, water and fuel. He also mentions His greatness and challenges us to find someone else who can produce these things if Allah takes them away from us.
