The Quran is a book of knowledge and guidance for all Muslims. Every letter of this holy book is full of wisdom and blessings. And Surah Al-Kahf is one of the most useful and excellent surahs of the Quran.

Surah Al-Kahf, the 18th Surah of the Noble Holy Quran. This Surah contains 110 verses, 1583 words, 6425 letters, and 12 Rukus. This Surah is in the 15th and 16th Juzz of the Noble Holy Quran. It was revealed in Makkah, so it is called Makki Surah.

The English meaning of this Surah is The Cave. This surah revolves around these stories; The People and the Cave, The Companion of Two Gardens, Moses and Khidr, and Dhul Qarnayn. This Surah highlights that one must avoid the traits of temptation (Fitnah) to live a better life. This Surah also highlights the best way to deal with the Fitnah.

It is stated in Surah Al-Kahf that: “So whoever wishes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord.” (Surah al-Kahf: 110)

Our Beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that a person who recites Surah Al Kahf on Friday will remain protected from evil between two Fridays and a light (Noor) is created for him.

Surah Al-Kahf is a light that illuminates the path of guidance for the one who recites it, because it prevents Muslims from disobedience and sins and shows the path of goodness and righteousness. And it may be a real and solid light, as it is narrated from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, there will be a light from under his feet to the clouds of the sky. will shine that will shine from it on the Day of Judgment. Also, Surah Kahf protects its reader from Dajjal’s temptation by memorizing its first ten verses.

Hadiths about Surah Kahf

Our Beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that a person who recites Surah Al Kahf on Friday will remain protected from evil between two Fridays and a light (Noor) is created for him.

From Abu Sa’id al-Khudri, who said: “Whoever reads Surat al-Kahf on the night of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will stretch between him and the Ka’bah.” (Narrated by al-Darimi, 3407. This hadith was classed as sahih by Shaykh al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami’, 6471)

Another hadith narrates: “Whoever reads Surat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.” (Narrated by al-Hakim, 2/399; al-Bayhaqi, 3/249)

The Virtue of Reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday

There are authentic hadiths narrated from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about the virtue of reciting Surah Al-Kahf on the day or night of Friday. These include:

(A) It was narrated from Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (may God be pleased with him) that: Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday night, there will be a light between him and the Kaaba. (Sunan al-Darmi, 3407. This hadith has been declared authentic by Sheikh Al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami, 6471)

(b) Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on a Friday will have a light that will shine from one Friday to another. (Narrated by Al-Hakim, 2/399; Al-Bayhaqi, 3/249. Ibn Hajar said in Takhrej al-Attiq that this hadith is Hasan, and he said, it is the strongest tradition that was narrated about reciting the surah. (See al-Kahf: Fayd al-Qadeer, 6/198, it is classified as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami, 6470).

(c) Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, there is light for him. It will shine from under his feet to the clouds of the sky which will shine for him on the Day of Resurrection and between two Fridays his (sins) will be forgiven.”

Al-Munzari said that it was narrated by Abu Bakr bin Mardawiyyah in his Tafsir with a chain of transmission and there is no problem with it. (Al-Tirghib and al-Tirhib, 1/298)

When to Recite Surah Al-Kahf on Friday?

Surat al-Kahf can be recited at night or on Friday. Friday night begins at sunset on Thursday and ends at sunset on Friday. Therefore, the time to recite this surah is from sunset on Thursday to sunset on Friday.
